People ask me all the time: "You work with socks every day—you must wear really nice ones yourself, right?"
Honestly, in my first year, I didn't care at all. When you see hundreds of styles and colors every day, you go numb to it. I'd grab whatever was on top of the drawer and not think twice.
But after a few years in this business, my eyes and my feet got picky. Spend that much time around good socks and you develop a sense for what actually works.
Now I look for three things.
First, the cotton. The combed cotton we use feels different from regular cotton—smoother, softer, almost like a sun-dried blanket. But it holds its shape. It doesn't go baggy.
Second, the cuff. I hate socks that slide down. A good cuff stays put without digging into your skin.
Third, the heel and toe. These are the first spots to wear out. Good socks reinforce them with stronger yarn so they last.
So if you ask me what I wear—I wear socks that stay with me. That's it.
