I've been making socks for almost twenty years. If there's one thing I've learned, it's this: a good sock isn't about the logo on the outside. It's about what's underneath.
The cuff needs to be snug but not tight. Too loose and it slides down. Too tight and it leaves marks. Getting that balance right takes years of adjusting elastic blends.
The leg is where your design lives. More space means more room to work with. But the fabric also needs to breathe—a tight knit might look clean, but if it doesn't breathe, your feet sweat.
The heel and toe take the most wear. Cheap socks cut corners here. A good sock reinforces them with stronger yarn so they don't wear through after a few washes.
The material matters more than anything else. Combed cotton is soft and breathable. Polyester holds color well and dries fast. Nylon adds stretch and strength.
